The film Koali & Rice features in the "Hidden Dragon" section of the 2019 Pingyao Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon International Film Festival, which will be held in Pingyao, Shanxi province, on Oct 10-19.

Koali & Rice refers to the daily diet of the Fujian people -- sweet potato porridge.

The film tells the story of widow Lin Xiumei's discovery that after raising two sons who inevitably have left home, her reality has changed.

From being someone who was once "needed", she has become someone who is "irrelevant", a change that inflicts deep confusion in her life.

As the title of this film suggests, the true meaning of life is usually hidden behind the surface of an ordinary life. The film explores the regional culture and local customs of southern Fujian, with elegant cinematography and accented local music.

The "Hidden Dragon" section was especially established for talented new directors.

The director, Ye Qian, is a young director known for his cross-over career, while focusing primarily on fashion design.
