Domestic Chinese coffee chain Luckin Coffee on Sept 25 opened three stores at Beijing Daxing International Airport as part of its increased efforts adding physical stores in prominent locations.

Terminals at the Daxing airport, set to be the the world’s largest by number of travelers once the project completes, are projected to serve more than 45 million travelers a year annually in the first phase.

The massive volume of air travelers in Daxing airport has created a magnet for catering brands including Luckin Coffee, Starbucks and Heytea.

In addition to airports, Luckin Coffee, which was formerly known for its delivery-centered businesses, has expanded their brick-and-mortar outlets with more locations and themes.

The company on July 16 opened its store in Hangzhou Railway Station and has plans to open more locations at airports and high-speed railway stations in first- and second tier cities.

Luckin Coffee is targeting younger consumers, with sports-themed stores being built this year.

The Xiamen-based coffee chain house has opened two NBA-themed stores in Shenzhen and Shanghai to provide a NBA experience outside the basketball court.
