At the invitation of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Fujian Provincial Government, a delegation led by Janet Everett, vice-chairman of the Australia China Friendship Society in Tasmania, Australia, visited Xiamen, Fujian province from Sept 24 to 26.

The Australian delegation aimed to learn about the city's economic and social development as well as the achievements it has made in garbage sorting.

On Sept 25, the delegation visited the local Wuyuan No 2 Experimental School, where the school's principal Shi Xiwu showcased the school's achievements in fostering awareness of sorting garbage among students.

Everett said that she would recommend Xiamen as an international summer camp to students in Tasmania, adding that it is her duty to promote educational exchanges between Fujian and Tasmania since the two places are sister provinces.

During their stay in Xiamen, the Australian delegation also visited Gulangyu, a World Cultural Heritage Site and Urban Planning Exhibition Hall, to learn about the city's cultural and historical background as well as its contemporary achievements and future plans.

The delegation will also attend the National Day reception held by the Fujian provincial government in its capital city of Fuzhou and visit the cities of Quanzhou, Nanping and Longyan.

In 1981, Tasmania became Fujian's first sister province. Over the past 38 years, the two places have carried out extensive exchange and cooperation in economy, science, education, agriculture, forestry, and aquatic products.
