Swiss conglomerate ABB Group, the world's top provider of automation technology, plans to set up a lightning arrester company in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, the group announced in September. This will further improve Xiamen's ability to provide industrial support for the power equipment and electronics industry.

The power equipment and electronics industry was listed as one of six leading industries in the Xiamen Torch High-Tech Zone. Over the years, the zone has attracted a number of enterprises with high scientific and technological capabilities, and a complete industrial chain is taking shape there.

A wide range of innovative enterprises have propelled the high-quality development of Xiamen's power equipment and electronics industry. Products produced by Xiamen ABB have been widely used in a number of national key projects, including the Bird's Nest, the Water Cube, the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

The zone's power equipment and electronics industry has seen rapid growth in recent years, and its output value rose from 6.84 billion yuan ($967.85 million) in 2008 to 15.35 billion yuan in 2018, a growth of 125 percent.
