Tourism booms on May Day holiday in Xiangzhou

During this year's May Day holiday, Xiangzhou district saw a remarkable surge in tourist numbers, with major scenic spots combined receiving a total of 2.063 million visitors. This was an increase of 280 percent compared to the same period in 2022 and 68.2 percent compared to the same period in 2019.

Among the most popular attractions were the Lover's Avenue, including the City Balcony, Seaside Park, City Living Room, Yeli Island, Ocean Plaza, and Haitian Park, which received a total of 1.784 million visitors, an increase of approximately 371 percent compared to the same period in 2022 and about 92.8 percent compared to that of 2019.

Its 4A-level scenic spot Yuanming New Park held an Antique Street Night Market event, which received a total of 95,000 visitors, an increase of approximately 368 percent compared to the same period in 2022, and which has already returned to the level of the same period in 2019. The Sante Cableway and Slide received a total of 38,000 visitors.

Xiangzhou's hotel accommodation business was booming, with most hotels almost fully booked in the first three days of the holiday. The average occupancy rate exceeded 90 percent and main hotels along the Lover's Avenue had an average occupancy rate of 95 percent.

In response to such an influx of tourists, the Xiangzhou government established an emergency team, and scenic spots improved their support service by carrying out all-day medical support.

In addition, about 2,100 volunteers worked in shifts to help maintain environmental hygiene, provide tourist assistance, and handle emergency medical treatment.
