A romantic coastal self-drive route along Lovers Avenue in Zhuhai city - located in South China's Guangdong province - recently received a new accolade.

It was named a distinctive boutique route by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province.

In all, it takes about 100 to 150 minutes for motorists in Guangdong cities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Foshan to reach Zhuhai and the best season for enjoying this run is from April to October.

Major attractions along the way include Haitian Park, the Xiangshan Cloud Walkway, Zhuhai Opera House, Jingshan Cableway, the Fisher Maiden Statue and the City Balcony.

Haitian Park, open all day long, is a great place for leisure, sightseeing and fun natural science things to do with its rich vegetation and there are three ancient trees that are over 300 years old.

Zhuhai Opera House is the only one of its kind in China that was built on an island, resembling a double shell of the sun and the moon - making it a real landmark in the city.

Elsewhere, the Jingshan Cableway, located on the eastern foot of Shijing Mountain, offers visitors a panoramic view of Hong Kong and Macao in the distance - as well as the Fisher Maiden Statue, Zhuhai Opera House and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

The Fisher Maiden Statue is a famous sculpture located in Xianglu Bay, depicting a fisher girl holding a sparkling pearl and it's become a symbol of Zhuhai.
