The Xiangzhou district of South China's Zhuhai city slotted into number 36 on the list of the nation's top 100 districts - unveiled by consultancy CCID Consulting on Aug 8.
The criteria for inclusion on the list for selecting districts related to the high-quality development of urban areas, their economic strength, growth potential, internal support, as well as their functional level and shared development.
Helping it to make the grade, Xiangzhou experienced steady economic growth in 2022, with its regional GDP hitting 174.71 billion yuan ($24.23 billion), a year-on-year increase of 1.5 percent.
In the first half of 2023, its GDP climbed 6 percent year-on-year to 91.7 billion yuan, accounting for 44.4 percent of Zhuhai's total.
What's more, it achieved an industrial added value of 24.74 billion yuan in the six months, contributing 2.7 percentage points to the district's GDP growth.
The service industry also saw growth, with an added value of 56.66 billion yuan, driving a 3.2 percentage points increase in GDP.
As the consumption center of Zhuhai, Xiangzhou's retail sales of consumer goods during H1 contributed 87.5 percent to the city's growth in the sector, with the district's sales worth 41.8 billion yuan.
