The 2023 Xiangshan Rowing Regatta (Qianshan River) opened on Nov 25, gathering 20 teams from 14 renowned local and foreign universities to compete on the Qianshan River.
The competition's starting point was near the Qianshan Bridge in Xiangzhou district and the finish line was near the Changsheng Bridge, covering a total length of 1.5 kilometers.
The competition included three events: a Men's Eight, a Women's Eight, and a Mixed Eight. Each boat was also allowed to have a coxswain onboard. A coxswain is responsible for steering the boat and coordinating the power and rhythm of the rowers.
The event brought together high-level rowing teams from universities such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Tongji University, Xi'an University of Electronic Science and Technology, Sun Yat-sen University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and University of Macao, along with Yale University from the United States.
In addition to the main venue on the eastern bank of the Qianshan River, two grandstands were set up along the river for the public to watch the race.
The Qianshan River flows through Zhuhai. With Macao just across the water, the river also overlooks Hong Kong to the east.
In recent years, Zhuhai has carried out extensive governance efforts to improve the water quality of the Qianshan River. Both banks have shown significant improvements, with their clear water, green banks, and beautiful scenery.
