Zhuhai will be the core of a developing city cluster on the west bank of the Pearl River estuary, Guangdong province announced on Dec 20.
This city cluster has included the administrative areas of Zhuhai, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Yangjiang, expanding the cluster's land area to approximately 21,000 square kilometers.
By 2035, the city cluster will have created a mature modern industrial system and a high-level open economic system. By this time it also plans to achieve the comprehensive interconnection of infrastructure, create a joint system to protect and govern the ecological environment, and comprehensively promote the integrated development of urban and rural areas.
A comprehensive transportation framework will be established, as well as smooth intercity road, port, and shipping systems. Efforts will also be made to enhance service capabilities of aviation hubs.
A new industrial development pattern will be formed, with a focus on promoting the construction of cross-regional industrial cooperation parks.
Furthermore, it was announced that the cluster will gain approval authority for key projects, such as infrastructure construction and industrial development, from the country and the province.
