A large flock of egrets, such as black-faced spoonbill and Pacific Reef Herons, have recently been spotted in Zhuhai's Xiangzhou district as the annual migration season has arrived.

Xiangzhou boasts five nature reserves and a forest coverage rate of 39.28 percent. It has recorded 675 species of wild vascular plants and 258 species of terrestrial wild vertebrates. Nineteen nationally protected animal species have been spotted in the district.

Last year, the district issued a plan to protect terrestrial wildlife and plants for the next eight years. It was drafted to improve further the intelligent monitoring systems for rare and endangered animals, as well as epidemic sources and diseases of terrestrial wildlife.

To protect more than 220 ancient and famous trees in the district, Xiangzhou made a detailed plan to improve the management standards. According to the plan, each tree's information has been recorded. A quarterly patrol and monitoring mechanism has also been launched.

Experts and technicians are organized to conduct a baseline survey on the resources in its nature reserves of Banzhanshan Forest Park, Xiangshan Lake Park, Heibaimian Jiangjunshan Forest Park, Gongbei Jiangjunshan Forest Park, and Youjishan Forest Park.

Meanwhile, it has improved forest quality in more than 2,415 mu (161 hectares).
