The Centennial Celebration of Rehabilitation International (RI) was held in Beijing on May 21, 2023.
Over its 100-years history, RI has consistently campaigned for human health, the integrity of life, and the rights of people with disability, playing an important role in promoting the inclusion, equality, and participation of people with disability worldwide. Zhang Haidi, chairwoman of RI and former chairwoman of the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF) made the remarks at the event.
Looking towards the next century, RI will call on governments, the international community and everyone to respect human diversity, uphold human rights, promote equal participation and comprehensive development, and work together to build a peaceful, inclusive and friendly society, Zhang said. The RI will appeal to all to remove barriers for people with disability regarding rehabilitation and integration into society, promote the common development of global disability affairs, and continue to hold the humanitarian torch to illuminate the path of inclusive development for people with disability.
A series of concurrent activities, including the award ceremony for the RI Centennial Award of Significant Contributions, the RI strategic seminar, eight sub-forums, a themed forum on disability in Belt and Road countries, and the Care and Rehabilitation Expo China 2023, were held alongside Rehabilitation International’s centennial celebrations.
