A team from the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF) inspected efforts in assistive technology developments and preparations for the upcoming 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities (NGD) and the 9th National Special Olympic Games (NSOG) in South China's Guangdong province from Oct 9 to 11.
The team was led by Zhou Changkui, chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the CDPF.
They visited the cities of Shenzhen, Foshan and Guangzhou, where they surveyed institutions like internet companies, assistive device enterprises, technological innovation laboratories and the sports center for people with disabilities.
The team held in-depth talks with people with disabilities, business owners and laboratory directors.
Zhou called on disabled persons' federations at all levels to advance the integration of science and technology into disability support and to strengthen the application of scientific achievements in disability prevention.
He also called for promoting the use of cutting-edge technologies such as brain-computer interfaces and artificial intelligence to drive intelligent manufacturing of assistive devices for people with disabilities.
He also highlighted the importance of leveraging the subsidy system for assistive devices to encourage the adoption of high-tech products, further improving the quality of assistive device adaptation services and continuously meeting the growing aspirations of people with disabilities for a better life.
Zhou emphasized that as the preparations for the Games entered the final stage, stronger coordination among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao is needed to ensure successful hosting of the Games ranging from torch relays, opening and closing ceremonies, and hospitality and logistical support to the development of accessible environment.
During the visit, Zhou also addressed a news conference on the Bank of Communications' financial services for the 12th NGD and 9th NSOG.
