Top political adviser stresses consolidating, developing patriotic united front

BEIJING -- China's top political adviser Wang Yang on Wednesday stressed consolidating and developing the broadest possible patriotic united front to pool strength for the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation.

Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks when addressing a seminar held to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC).

The seminar was held in the name of the "united front," a term used by the CPC to describe its policy of uniting the political forces representing people of various circles.

Applauding the important contributions made by the united front to the socialist revolution, construction and reform since the founding of the PRC, Wang said members of the united front are the CPC's ally that can be counted on and trusted.

Noting that the united front faces more arduous work in the new era, Wang stressed gathering wisdom and strength to solve major issues in economic and social development, difficult tasks in comprehensively deepening reform and issues concerning the vital interests of the people.

Wang also called for efforts to continuously improve the pertinency and effectiveness of the united front's work.
