Liu Qibao, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, led a CPPCC National Committee delegation to Trinidad and Tobago from Dec 5 to 6, 2019.
During his meeting with Trinidad and Tobago's Prime Minister Keith Roley, Liu said that 2019 is the 45th anniversary of the establishment of China-Trinidad and Tobago diplomatic relations. During the ensuing decades, the two countries have seen steady development and consolidation of bilateral ties. China highly values its friendship with Trinidad and Tobago and is willing to, under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, implement the consensuses reached by the two nations' leaders and to further increase mutual political trust, deepen practical collaboration in multiple areas and make further progress in bilateral, regional and multilateral development.
Roley spoke highly of China-Trinidad and Tobago relations and praised China's social and economic development. He said he is willing to further cooperate to deepen ties.
During his meetings with Nigel de Freitas, acting president of the Senate of Trinidad and Tobago, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Brigid Annisette-George, Liu introduced China's socialist consultative democracy and the CPPCC system, and talked about the friendly exchanges between Trinidad and Tobago's parliament and the CPPCC National Committee.
During the trip, the delegation also visited the Trinidad and Tobago National Center for Performing Arts, which was built with assistance from China.
