At the invitation of the parliament of Gabon, Shao Hong, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, led a CPPCC National Committee delegation to visit Gabon in December 2019. Gabonese President Ali Bongo Ondimba met with the delegation on Dec 20 in Libreville, capital of the country.

Shao congratulated him on the success of the Special Summit of the Economic Community of Central African States. He said 2019 was the 45th anniversary of the establishment of China-Gabon diplomatic ties and that the two countries have maintained steady and healthy development in bilateral ties during the decades. China is willing to work with Gabon to promote the China-Gabon comprehensive partnership to a new height. Shao introduced the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 70th founding anniversary of the CPPCC.

Bongo spoke highly of the friendly relations of the two countries and recalled the traditional friendship forged by the former leaders of the two nations. He expressed his congratulations on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the PRC and the 70th founding anniversary of the CPPCC. He said he hopes the two countries will further consolidate their traditional friendship by enriching the content of their comprehensive partnership and strengthening cooperation in international affairs.

Shao also met with President of the Senate of Gabon Lucie Milebou and other legislators, exchanging opinions on how to enhance cooperation between his organization and theirs.
