Traditional Chinese Medicine is an important part of the Chinese cultural heritage and features the advantages of the Chinese medical and health sector. It has a positive influence on the development of medical science in the world. 

Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the government has attached great importance to TCM and made many guidelines and policies for its development. Though TCM has made great achievements, difficulties and problems still exist. 

A legal method is needed to revitalize TCM and create an ideal social environment for rapid development of TCM; that's why it's essential to pass laws. Previous policies have already laid the legislative basis. Many regions in the country have also gained rich experiences in the TCM field. 

Defining the role, function, goal and guidelines of TCM on a legal basis helps to unify people's understanding of TCM. A strengthened legal system also helps maintain orderly work, boosts international exchanges and helps TCM to go global. We propose to formulate laws for TCM as soon as possible to ensure its stable and healthy development.
