Shushan Gunanjie Street in Dingshu town of Yixing, East China's Jiangsu province, which is known as the hometown of purple clay, is an ideal place to learn about the history and culture of the traditional art.

Conservation and renewal of Gunanjie Street historic district received an Honorable Mention at the ARCASIA Awards for Architecture recently.

Conservation work on the ancient street was carried out to retain the traditional and unique characteristics of a typical Jiangnan water town, as well as to promote its overall environment to meet the needs of modern tourism and sightseeing.

The ancient street was also selected as a demonstration case of a historical and cultural block of the International Union of Architects Exhibition Housing and Urban-Rural Development.
