The Tsinghua Alumni Investment Society donated a statue of renowned Chinese writer Qian Zhongshu and his wife Yang Jiang to his former residence in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, on Aug 18.

The couple once spent four years studying, living and working at Tsinghua University, and in her later years Yang established a scholarship for Tsinghua students and donated their manuscripts, books, letters and related copyrights to the Tsinghua University Education Foundation.

He created a heartwarming scene of the couple sitting on a Taihu stone, a well-known ornamental rock mainly found in the Taihu Lake area, while holding hands.

Located in Liangxi district, the former residence of Qian Zhongshu consists of four courtyards where Qian spent his childhood.

Covering about 1,600 square meters, the first two courtyards of the residence were built by Qian's grandfather in 1923, and the additions were constructed by his uncle in 1924.

The architectural characteristics of the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911) and the West are perfectly integrated in the building. Qian's grandfather named the house Sheng Wu Tang to encourage descendants to study hard and live in harmony.
