Wang Dayu, a retired professor of the Russian language with the School of Foreign Languages at Shanxi University (SXU), received an outstanding contribution award for Russian education in China on Oct 16.

The honor was presented to him on the day by the Association of Chinese teachers of Russian Language and Literature, at a conference marking the 40th anniversary of its establishment, held at Shanghai International Studies University located in Shanghai in East China.

During his teaching career at Shanxi University from 1964 to 2000, Wang actively advocated the reform of Russian teaching and the Russian-English bilingual teaching methodology.

The students he taught all have solid basic language skills and strong abilities, and are widely engaged in China's foreign affairs, national defense, scientific research, economics and trade, as well as in the teaching sectors.

In addition to teaching, Wang devoted himself to scientific research and is highly accomplished in Russian linguistics. He was once engaged in translation practice and research work and published papers in many academic journals.

Shanxi University has a proud history of more than 70 years of Russian teaching, with many outstanding teachers having contributed their entire lives to the development of the Russian language major at the university and China's Russian language knowledge.

Moreover, the university's professors Wu Changfu, Zhang Wenyu and Yang Jishun have also received the same honor with Wang previously. The commendation of Wang was another recognition of the elder generation of Russian language teachers, in their outstanding contribution to Russian education in China.
