Xiamen University hosted a slew of celebratory activities themed on fu, meaning blessing and luck, for nearly 2,000 students who stayed on campus during Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year, including a number of international students.
The activities included writing Spring Festival couplets, paper-cutting, making Chinese knots, singing songs and riddle-guessing games.
An Italian postgraduate, who goes by the Chinese name Kong Ruoshui, said the custom of pasting the Chinese character fu on doors is very interesting and made him feel at home.
The university has held a series of festive activities for four years in a row. Celebrations for various traditional Chinese festivals such as Lantern Festival, Qingming Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival have become a cultural tradition on campus.
