Xiamen mayor meets Tongan deputy prime minister
Huang Wenhui, mayor of Xiamen city in East China's Fujian province, met with a delegation of politicians on April 19 from Pacific Island countries – led by Samiu Vaipulu, deputy prime minister of Tonga.
Huang welcomed the delegation on behalf of the city and briefed them on Xiamen's economic and social development. He said Xiamen and the Pacific Island countries had a deep friendship and broad cooperation space.
According to Huang, as an important window for China's opening-up, Xiamen will further leverage its unique geographical advantages and enhance its economic and trade cooperation with Pacific Island countries. Furthermore, it will strengthen its pragmatic cooperation in marine environmental protection, marine resource utilization and other aspects – as well as expand exchanges with them in science and technology, education, culture, tourism and in other fields.
Vaipulu thanked Xiamen for its warm reception of his delegation. He expressed his wish to learn more about the advanced experience of Fujian province and Xiamen in developing their marine economy and other areas of endeavor. He called for a deeper and expanded cooperation space in various fields between the two sides to achieve mutual benefits.
