Xiamen, Dushanbe celebrate 10th friendship anniversary
Celebrations were held in May in the port city of Xiamen and in Dushanbe, capital of the central Asian country of Tajikistan.
That's because the current year marks the 10th friendship anniversary between the two cities.
A Dushanbe-Xiamen photo exhibition took place at the National Museum of Tajikistan on May 15. Zhuang Rongliang, Xiamen's vice-mayor, and Abdurahmon Abdurahmonzda, Dushanbe's vice-mayor, attended and gave speeches at the opening ceremony.
A Xiamen-Dushanbe photo exhibition and lecture was held in Xiamen Library on May 14, with over 80 guests attending.
Stronger relations between Xiamen and Dushanbe were forged in 2013, when they became sister cities.
Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon has visited Xiamen three times and he was appointed as an honorary professor by Xiamen University. During the onset of COVID-19, Xiamen donated epidemic prevention materials to Dushanbe to help it fight the epidemic.
The jointly organized photo exhibition focused on showcasing the friendly exchanges, urban scenery, folk customs and development achievements of the two cities. The works of the great Tajik poet Rudaki and Chinese poet Shu Ting were highlighted at the event.
A lecture on the development opportunities of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and Central Asia, in the context of a community with a shared future for mankind, was also held in Xiamen. It was given by professor Li Dan of Xiamen University.
