The China Tourism Academy recently released the 2023 National Tourist Satisfaction Report, and Xiamen was selected as one of the top ten cities in terms of tourist satisfaction, ranking among the top three nationwide.
The 2023 National Tourist Satisfaction Report, commissioned by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, is one of the most authoritative tourism surveys in China.
The data shows that in 2023, Xiamen's tourism industry received nearly 1.1 billion visitors, reaching a historic high and representing a 67 percent year-on-year increase. Its total tourism revenue exceeded 156.7 billion yuan ($21.63 billion), maintaining its position as the top earner in the province with an 83 percent year-on-year increase.
Among the 27 monitored scenic spots in the city, the total number of tourists recorded in 2023 reached 51.9 million, marking a 98 percent year-on-year increase.
In addition, Xiamen's "Garden on the Sea, Music and Sports in Xiamen" cultural and tourism promotion event was also recognized by the China Tourism Academy as one of the country’s top ten innovative urban cultural and tourism brand cases in 2024.
This year, Xiamen has formulated and implemented a three-year action plan to promote the high-quality development of its cultural and tourism economy, designating 2024 as the "Year of Quality Tourism".
China announced and implemented on May 15 a policy allowing visa-free entry of foreign tourist groups aboard cruise ships via all cruise ship ports along the country's coastline.
China and Georgia are set to waive visa requirements for travelers starting May 28.
