A medical team led by Wang Yan, director of the Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital Xiamen University (XMCH) – based in Xiamen city of Southeast China's Fujian province – recently visited the Dr Soetomo General Academic Hospital (RSUD Dr Soetomo) in the port city of Surabaya in Indonesia.
During the visit, the team collaborated with local specialists to engage in academic exchanges. Together, they utilized innovative medical devices produced by China to guide the performance of cardiovascular intervention surgeries, successfully completing two pioneering cases in Indonesia.
In June, the hospital established an International Medical Center to provide top-quality medical services for patients in need from Southeast Asia, including referrals from RSUD Dr Soetomo.
Since 2022, XMCH has begun to provide training opportunities for promising cardiovascular specialists from Belt and Road countries, including three from Indonesia.
The visit exemplifies XMCH's commitment to the Global Development Initiative, furthering medical cooperation with Belt and Road countries.
Since Xiamen and Surabaya became sister cities in June 2006, they have engaged in extensive exchanges in trade, culture, education, sports, urban development, and more.
During the visit, two hospitals signed a memorandum of cooperation to deepen their collaboration in clinical treatment, technological innovation and training.
The memorandum aims to expand cooperation in healthcare and ultimately strengthen mutual trust and communication between the two cities.
