In 2014, Xiamen and Nice, France signed an international sister city agreement, and over the past decade, they have achieved fruitful results in friendly exchanges and cooperation in the fields of culture, tourism, and education.
2024 not only marks the 10th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between Xiamen and Nice, but also the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France. To celebrate the occasion, Dr Chistiane Amiel, vice mayor of Nice, led a delegation to Xiamen, hoping to gain a better understanding of the city's recent economic and social development.
On Nov 11, the 10th-anniversary celebration of the sister-city relationship between Xiamen and Nice was held in Xiamen, which saw leaders from both cities exchange commemorative gifts. The two cities signed a memorandum of understanding to deepen cooperation, and the Gulangyu Island Management Committee signed a friendly cooperation agreement with the Nice World Heritage Committee.
The event also featured a sister-city exchange photo exhibition, the sharing of stories from both cities, a number of performances, and a tasting session of Chinese and Western tea treats.
During their visit to Xiamen, the delegation visited places like Gulangyu Island and Xiamen University, and attended the opening ceremony of the 2024 China Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival. They left with a deep impression of Xiamen’s diverse culture, openness, inclusivity, and vitality.
