BDA steps up to promote cutting-edge industry
The Development and Construction Plan of the Zhongguancun National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period was recently released.
The plan calls for building world-leading science parks by 2025.
E-Town Science Park in the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (BDA), as part of the Zhongguancun Science Park, will deepen pilot reforms and provide support for the construction of Zhongguancun's cutting-edge industry system.
According to the plan, the Zhongguancun Science Park will strengthen leadership of the digital economy and build a world-class innovative industrial cluster.
The park will also aim at the commanding heights of industrial development, coordinating the promotion of the core competitiveness of leading industries and the cultivation of new tracks in the future, and promoting digital industrialization and industrial digitization.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, the BDA will focus on hard technologies to support the construction of the Beijing International Science and Technology Innovation Center, encourage enterprises, universities and research institutes to jointly build innovation platforms, and create several market-oriented research and development mechanisms.
More than 20 cutting-edge technology innovation centers, more than 10 pilot test bases, and dozens of public technology service platforms have been deployed in the area to promote independent control of key industries and promote the transformation of core technologies to drive industrial upgrading.
In the first three quarters of this year, enterprises in the BDA obtained a total of 6,970 patent authorizations, a year-on-year increase of 35.42 percent, and 1,896 invention patents, a year-on-year increase of 67.94 percent.
Currently, the BDA has formed a cutting-edge industry development pattern based on four leading industries - new generation information technology, high-end automobiles and new energy smart cars, biotechnology and health, and robotics and smart manufacturing, as well as emerging industries.
In the first quarter this year, the BDA achieved a regional GDP of 193.48 billion yuan ($30.34 billion), a year-on-year increase of 38.8 percent, and had a total industrial output value of 424.36 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 32 percent. The four leading industries had a total industrial output value of 403.74 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 33.0 percent.
