At the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics, the beautiful stage visuals had televiewers and the audience in awe: how did this visual feast come about?

"The world's largest screen is made by BOE!" said a staff member of BOE, an enterprise in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Area (BDA). 

The world's largest 8K ultra-high-definition ground display system, as well as the giant snowflake-shaped main torch stage presented China's latest technological innovations  to the world.

A shining stage

The ground display screen has an overall area of 10,393 square meters, and adopts multiple 8K resolution image fusion technologies at the same time. 

The ultra-large-scale optical correction algorithm can perform pixel-level optical correction on each display screen, which can realize 100,000:1 super resolution, high contrast, 3840Hz ultra-high refresh rate, and 29900x15096 ultra-high-resolution pictures.

Meanwhile, the stage also realized real-time interaction with actors' performances, which is also inseparable from the technical support of BOE. 

Equipped with the ultra-large-scale display module control and synchronization system independently developed by BOE, actors' trajectory can be captured in real time, and the seamless interaction between the screen and actors can be realized.

"During the five-month rehearsal and the extremely low temperature in winter, the ground display system can still operate stably, perfectly presenting the dreamlike and realistic beauty of the Winter Olympics to the world," said a BOE staff member.

'Snowflake' main torch platform

When the huge snowflake-shaped main torch platform shone with light and slowly lifted into the sky, accompanied by the lighting of the torch, the atmosphere of the opening ceremony was pushed to a climax, and audiences around the world were amazed by its beauty.

Both the overall hardware support and the software system of the torch platform are independently developed and designed by BOE.

The main torch platform has a diameter of 14.89 meters and is composed of LED double-sided screens with 96 in the shape of small snowflakes and six olive branches. It adopts a double-sided hollow design and is embedded with over 550,000 LED lamp beads.

"To realize the creative idea of the torch stage, BOE's core technical team used more than 500 design drawings and nearly 10 rounds of sample making, then developed the single-pixel controllable special-shaped display product with the narrowest luminous surface, which can fully present the line sense of snowflakes and the delicate display effect.

At the moment when the torch is lit, the giant snowflake screen radiates from the center to the surrounding, shining a wave-like progressive light. 

Behind the fast-changing and perfectly synchronized display screen, are BOE's AIoT technology system and its independently developed synchronous and asynchronous compatible signaling system.
