The 2023 Beijing E-Town High-Quality Development Investment Promotion Conference and the Launching Ceremony of the Beijing E-Town Global Partnership kicked off in Beijing on Sept 3.

Themed "Invest in E-Town, Innovate for Future", the event includes thematic speeches, policy introductions, signing ceremonies, an award ceremony, a roundtable forum, and other activities.

Maximum reward of 100 million yuan ($13.77 million) 

During the event, officials from the "Two Zones" office of Beijing E-Town provided detailed explanations of the newly released "Several Policies on Supporting the High-Quality Development of Foreign-Invested Enterprises" in Beijing E-Town. 

Among the nine specialized support policies for foreign-invested enterprises, the highest reward is 100 million yuan.

24-hour online service butler 

Officials mentioned that Beijing E-Town has simplified procedures for foreign-funded research and development centers, tax exemptions, and more through a DIY integrated service approach. 

Processes have been streamlined for Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan residents' identity verification, children's education, people returning to China for settlement, and other approval processes.

Meanwhile, a 24-hour online mechanism is implemented, offering multilingual hotlines for foreign-funded enterprises and foreigners to ensure immediate assistance. 

Nearly 20 companies sign agreements

During the event, 12 foreign-funded enterprises signed investment projects with Beijing E-Town, and six international platforms decided to collaborate with the area.

Vaisala Industrial Sensors will advance its China headquarters project in Beijing E-Town, and is considering an investment of 10 million yuan in research on meteorological measurement devices and industrial measurement equipment tailored to domestic needs. 

SMC plans to invest 600 million yuan in the construction of a new research and testing center with an area of approximately 40,000 square meters on existing land. And the Singapore DEPA International Center plans to establish a DEPA International Center office in Beijing E-Town to support DEPA's global digital economic development.

Awards were presented to 20 honorary partners, with SMC being one of them. 

In addition, 10 "First Foreign-Funded Enterprise to Enter the Area, Beijing E-Town," including Shiseido, Wöhner, and Landpac Road Construction, as well as 10 "Excellent Foreign-Funded Enterprises to Enter the Area, Beijing E-Town," including Beijing Benz, JD, and Bayer Healthcare were selected.

Plaques were also awarded to Beijing E-Town Overseas Merchant Offices in Germany, Singapore, the United States, and other countries.

Roundtable forum

The roundtable forum served as a bridge for communication between government and enterprises, and welcomed a virtual digital character named "Yiqi," who made an impressive appearance as a matchmaker.

In the roundtable forum, officials from relevant departments, business representatives, and experts gathered to discuss and exchange views. 

Discussions spanned various angles, including the biopharmaceutical industry, the digital economy, and business services, to explore a path of economic prosperity, ecological civilization, and inclusive growth.
