As a part of the third "Dadu Dongnan" Science and Art Festival, the 2023 "Dadu Dongnan" Science and Art Exhibition and Industrial Design Exhibition, or dual expo, held from Nov 17 to Dec 10, brings the festive atmosphere to new heights.

Expo highlights

The Beijing Smart Esports Center has been buzzing with activity since Nov 15. 

The "Vision Tunnel," "Interconnected Path," "New Industrial Fantasy," "Cross-Border Ecology," and "Technology New Language" sections of the dual expo have begun to take shape, and are sure to be highlights of the event.

"The theme of 'Technology and Art Bidirectional Empowerment' runs through the entire exhibition, allowing visitors to experience the beauty of technology and culture, the fusion of science and culture, and the vitality of innovation." remarked Lu Zhengyuan from the Central Academy of Fine Arts.

This exhibition is rich in highlights. It extends beyond indoor spaces and includes 17 well-known domestic artists of different generations, who have carefully selected more than twenty pieces from hundreds of exhibits nationwide.

Lu Zhengyuan, as one of the participating artists, presents "Open and Close," a piece that uses artistic techniques to create a honeycomb-like hexahedron. 

As viewers walk through it, they witness their images overlapping, refracting, separating, and circulating, vividly illustrating the relationship between "open" and "close" and conveying interpretations of openness, inclusivity, and the pursuit of collaborative creation.

Interactive and playful experience

Exhibits such as a self-playing smart piano, a chess-playing robot, subtitle glasses, and a popular unmanned logistics vehicle are presented in the expo.

Among them, all exhibits in the Industrial Design Exhibition come from enterprises in Beijing E-Town, featuring items like JD’s intelligent piano and interactive calligraphy screen, AstraZeneca's mixed reality solution, Evolver’s chess robot, iSpace’s rocket model and so forth.

The Science and Art Exhibition is also captivating. In the "Vision Tunnel" section, there is a magical stone. After artistic processing and redesigning the stone, visitors, using flashlights, can "see" little "monsters" in the painting and engage in a cross-era dialogue between humanity and the universe.

The digital public art installation "Flower Language," located at Beijing Daxing International Airport, is a mechanized structure made of metal machinery and elastic fiber fabric. Each motor-driven unit can open and close to the rhythm of music, and three flowers bloom during the exhibition.

Expo worth visiting

When you step into the Beijing Smart Esports Center, you will meet many "new friends" in the symbolically intertwined red and blue building. 

"Floating Clouds and Flowing Water" is constructed as a medium for nature, technology, and art, and "The Wanderer" showcases a special beauty through the artistic dismantling and industrialized assembly of objects.

In the dual expo, artists transform recycled shipping containers into an area that has become a landmark for locals. 

The unique exhibition space creates a distinctive atmosphere, offering viewers the opportunity to appreciate artwork and gain an insight into E-Town's development. 

Interacting with artists' works in these special spaces, visitors can fully immerse themselves in the charm of art through light, shadow, virtual reality, and audio.
