Two tech achievements from Beijing E-Town win municipal award
The Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Conference was recently held in Beijing, seeing 19 scientists and 196 achievements receiving the 2023 Beijing Science and Technology Awards. Two projects developed by the companies in the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (Beijing E-Town) were among the awards recipient list.
The project "Research and Industrialization of Augmented Reality (AR) Grating Waveguide Display Optical Devices" independently completed by Beijing Xloong Technology Co., Ltd., and the project "Development and Application of Large-Capacity Long Flexible Blade Bend-Twist Coupling Technology" led by Beijing Goldwind Sci-Tech Wind Power Equipment Co., Ltd., won the second prize of the Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award.
AR technology, which seamlessly integrates computer-generated virtual information into the real world in real-time, has brought about a revolutionary innovation in display and interaction technologies.
Facing the broad development prospects of AR near-eye displays, the project team of Xloong has conducted research on the design and manufacturing processes of grating waveguide display optical devices. The project has overcome critical and challenging core technologies, such as the simulation design of large field-of-view nano-grating waveguides, the preparation of silicon-based nano-imprint templates, and the mass production process of nano-imprinting. They have successfully developed AR grating waveguide display optical devices, achieving optical technical specifications and display effects that reach international leading levels.
This marks the first time in China that these technologies have been conquered and mass-produced, breaking the monopoly of foreign technologies and laying a foundation for the application and development of optical see-through near-eye display technology in China.
Xloong has become one of the very few companies worldwide, following Microsoft in the United States, to master the core principles and processes of diffractive grating waveguides.
Meanwhile, the project led by Beijing Goldwind has already "landed and blossomed" in industry practice. At present, the "ultra large capacity 16 megawatt offshore wind turbine" developed based on the achievement of the project has broken multiple world records and has achieved mass application, accumulating valuable experience for the innovation and verification of offshore wind power technology.
Beijing Goldwind has become a leading domestic and international provider of wind power integrated solutions after years of development. As of the end of 2023, a total of 2,737 patents of the company had been authorized. It has participated in and undertaken 8 national scientific research projects.
