Beijing E-Town to build a top-notch high-end industrial comprehensive new city
By 2030, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (Beijing E-Town) is expected to exceed 450 billion yuan ($61.91 billion), with the total output value of large-scale industries and the revenue of productive service industries reaching a scale of "double trillion".
Create new landmarks for industries
BioPark in Beijing E-Town not only hosts the six major centers of the National Medical Products Administration but has also attracted multinational pharmaceutical companies such as Lilly, Pfizer, Bayer, and Medtronic to establish new research and development institutions.
With four functional areas -- a headquarters gathering area, research and development transformation area, medical-industrial integration area and pharmaceutical intelligent manufacturing area -- BioPark caters to the spatial needs of enterprises, from research and development to large-scale production. It aims to establish an internationally influential hub for the biopharmaceutical industry, the first stop for global pharmaceutical innovation talents to start businesses in China, a demonstration area for AI-enabled applications in the national pharmaceutical and health industry and a test field for the implementation of national innovative pharmaceutical policies and reforms.
As BioPark's base, Beijing E-Town has gathered nearly 5,000 various pharmaceutical and health enterprises, covering the entire industry chain, including drugs, equipment and services. The scale of the pharmaceutical and health manufacturing industry accounts for nearly half of Beijing's total. By 2030, the scale of the pharmaceutical and health industry is expected to reach 150 billion yuan.
Nurture cutting-edge technological achievements
The future industry represents the direction of a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, serving as a force for economic growth and technological innovation. Beijing E-Town actively cultivates six major future industries, accelerating the layout of commercial aerospace, humanoid robots and other niche tracks, all of which currently have a good development foundation.
In the future, Beijing E-Town aims to expedite the development of reusable launch vehicle engineering and innovation centers, plan for new fields, such as next-generation displays and 6G, support research and development of products in areas such as cell and gene therapy, and health big data, introduce special support policies for the synthetic biology manufacturing industry, and establish an innovative cooperation platform for "AI + therapy".
Empower smart city development
In Beijing E-Town, autonomous vehicles shuttle through the streets and alleys, with applications such as Robotaxi, intelligent connected buses and autonomous sanitation vehicles accelerating their deployment. Scenes that used to appear in science fiction movies have now become a reality there.
In September 2020, construction began on the Beijing Municipal High-level Autonomous Driving Demonstration Zone in E-Town. By now, the zone has essentially completed its Phase 3 construction tasks, covering an area of 600 square kilometers across the city. Simultaneously, it has issued road test licenses to 34 testing vehicle companies and over 900 vehicles, with autonomous driving test mileage exceeding 35 million kilometers.
Leveraging the construction of the zone, E-Town has attracted more than 120 intelligent connected vehicle enterprises, forming an innovative ecosystem for the intelligent connected vehicle industry led by the top vehicle manufacturers and innovative companies. The intelligent connected vehicle industry chain covers various subfields such as vehicles, roads, cloud computing, networks, mapping, data and automotive chips.
