Zhongguancun nets around $500b from Jan to Sept, 15% up
Total revenue of Zhongguancun Science Park reached 3.32 trillion yuan ($500.7 billion) from January to September this year, an increase of 15.1 percent year-on-year.
Revenue generated from technologies totaled 487.48 billion yuan, 19.4 percent more than the same period last year and export value amounted to $20.21 billion, a year-on-year increase of 12.3 percent.
During the first nine months of this year, 28 enterprises in the park featuring new technologies and new business, such as Chinese news aggregator Jinri Toutiao and online service provider Meituan, added growth of more than one billion yuan to the overall technology revenue.
By relying on opportunities introduced by the Belt and Road Initiative, the export value of Nuctech, a world-level security and inspection solution and service supplier headquartered at the park, rose to 1.5 times of the equivalent value for the same period last year.
From January to September, the park saw a jump of investments in innovation for most enterprises as the science and technology spending of 10 enterprises exceeded one billion yuan and 500-plus enterprises spent more than half of their total investments on science and technology.
By the end of September, the number of the park's effective patents had risen to 75,510, 63.7 percent of Beijing's total. Also, the park applied for 54,422 patents from January to September, up 11 percent year-on-year.
Altogether, the park attracted 22,082 new science and technology enterprises during the first nine months of this year, or a daily average of 81, equal to 42.1 percent of total new companies in Beijing.
