Cheng Jing, CEO of Zhongguancun Intelligent Manufacturing Avenue (I-M-Way), gave interviews on March 1 about her proposal to the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

Cheng noted that many technology research institutes are still at the stage of laboratory and research reports. There are no real connections with the market and bottlenecks exist in the transformation of research technology.

She proposed that Beijing take the lead in setting up a platform for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements as it has abundant technical resources and many colleges and universities and scientific research institutes.

This effort would make full use of Beijing's technical resources and existing history of successful technological achievement transformation. The platform would then be of assistance in regions with highly concentrated innovative resources, such as Shanghai, Shenzhen and Xiong'an New Area.

Cheng Jing said, "Developed countries such as the United States and Japan have embarked on acceleration of transformation of innovative achievements so as to further consolidate their position in the global value chain."

Cheng Jing also suggested that the platform should be industrialization-oriented and use a market operation mode as a mechanism to improve the overall innovation capability in our country.

The new Intelligent Manufacturing Way, or I-M-WAY - a 380-meter-long avenue located in Zhongguancun Science Park in Beijing's Haidian district - is aiming to become a landmark for intelligent manufacturing and boost the transformation and upgrading of China's traditional manufacturing industry.
