Xiaomi bricks-and-mortar store nests in Shenzhen airport
China's smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi Corp is expanding its bricks-and-mortar stores -- Mi Home -- in 2018.
The Zhongguancun-based company announced its next step in Southeast China markets as a new Mi Home became operational at the Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport on March 10, Xiaomi's first airport shop in the world.

Located at the airport's Terminal 3, the Mi Home is smaller than others in shopping malls, but may be said to offer more. In addition to digital products including Xiaomi mobile phones and laptops, the store also displays products that are suitable for business trips, such as suitcases, Mi minimalist urban backpacks, sonic electric toothbrushes and towels.
Lin Bin, Xiaomi's co-founder and president, said that Mi Home's current revenue per 3.3 square meter area can reach up to 260,000 yuan ($41,000), which is second only to Apple Store's 400,000 yuan.
Lei Jun, founder and CEO of Xiaomi, said that Shenzhen is Xiaomi's new destination for offline retail. The opening of Xiaomi's first airport store in Shenzhen pioneers the company's new retail business.

Xiaomi added 235 Mi Home stores and two brand stores in 170 cities in 2017. As of Jan 13, the number of stores exceeded 300 nationwide.
Last May, Xiaomi opened the first Mi Home in India. The total number of Xiaomi stores there has now increased to 17, and it plans to open 100 more in mid-2019.
