Construction of the China Meteorological Science Park, a joint effort of the China Meteorological Administration and the Beijing Municipal Government, started on April 12.

The project is now included in the key development projects of the Beijing's Zhongguancun Science Park with strong support in land and personnel policies from the Beijing and Haidian district governments.

The meteorological industry-oriented park aims to build a platform for transforming innovation achievements of strategic emerging industries and serve as an incubator of meteorological-related startups, as well as an accelerator of meteorological service companies.

Shi Shuwei, head of the project, said that cooperation on the project will promote meteorological science and technology and industrial advantages. The operation of the park will systematically improve the development of the meteorological science and technology industry and form an intensive meteorological science and technology industrial cluster.

Headquartered at the Yongfeng Industrial Base of Haidian district, the incoming new park covers a planned construction area of 150,000 square meters.

The park will have two blocks in Changping Park and Haidian Park—two sub-parks of Zhongguancun Science Park. The Changping Park block will provide meteorological instrument equipment companies with support for research and development, production, pilot projects, and incubation.
