JD launches solar powered delivery vehicles
JD, China's second largest e-commerce operator, has launched solar powered delivery vehicles to help it cope with the upcoming June 18 shopping gala, according to an announcement by Liu Qiangdong, CEO of JD Group.
The solar powered vehicle, which is said to reduce carbon emissions by 10,000 tons a year, has an endurance capacity 50 percent higher than that of an ordinary vehicle, which means that more express deliveries can be made every day -- up to a maximum of 40.
At present, some 50 solar powered delivery vehicles are already serving the Beijing area.
