A month of musical events in memory of Hua Yanjun, known as Blind Ah Bing, China's most famous erhu player, commenced in Wuxi on Aug 26.
During the opening ceremony, a traditional Chinese music concert was held, showcasing a mix of traditional Chinese music and modern genres. Famous musicians such as Zhu Changyao, erhu player and honorary president of the Jiangsu Provincial Musicians Association, were invited to perform at the concert.
As 2018 marks the 125th anniversary of the birth of Blind Ah Bing, a series of events marking his life will be held till Sept 27, including the four-day national erhu competition of the Prime Golden Bell Music Award of China and music seminars on the inheriting and development of traditional Chinese music.
"As a prestigious folk musician in China, Blind Ah Bing contributed a lot to the development of traditional Chinese music. Holding this month of music is very significant in that it further inherits the spirit of Ah Bing and promotes local erhu culture," said Zhu Changyao.
