The world's largest purely battery-powered ship, known as Yangtze River Three Gorges 1, will officially be put into use this year.
Wuxi Silent Electric System Technology Co Ltd, which is based in Wuxi National Hi-tech District, provided the battery system, DC network variable frequency electronic control equipment, propulsion motors, and transformers to the ship.
Measuring 100 meters in length and 15.8 meters in width, the ship is equipped with a total battery capacity of 7618 kilowatt-hours, which is equivalent to the total battery capacity of more than 100 pure electric vehicles.
Wuxi Silent Electric System Technology Co Ltd was built in WND in 2011 by Shanxi Fenxi Heavy Industry Co and a doctoral team from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
The company mainly works on the latest generation of electric propulsion and hybrid electric system integration for ships and underwater vehicles, as well as the manufacturing of key frequency conversion equipment.
The company has applied for the registration of 82 domestic and foreign patents, of which 30 utility model patents and 13 invention patents have been authorized.
