Zhongguancun supports cutting-edge industries in sub-parks: 155 projects in first phase
On Dec 28th, Zhongguancun updated its report on developing cutting-edge high-tech industries. To date, the special fund established at the beginning of the year has identified 155 cutting-edge projects, which have received supporting funds of 839 million yuan ($122.03 million).

The projects include transformation of frontier and original technological achievements and their industrialization, collaborative innovation platforms, incubation platforms of hard technologies, characteristic industrial parks as well as innovative and entrepreneurial communities, regional transformation and upgrading and utilization of inventory space.
Core and common technologies are now the focus
On the production line of industrial automation, robotic arms will replace humans for loading, discharging, assembling, and similar procedures. Some robots can even perform such complex tasks as inspecting the production line.
In 2015, Aubo Robotics Technology was established based on technologies from BUAA (Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics), and the first collaborative robot with completely independent intellectual property rights belonging to a Chinese enterprise was born.
This year, Aubo Robotics obtained contracts valued at 200 million yuan, and its production capacity soared from 1,000 sets to 5,000 sets.
Among the cutting-edging projects selected, Aubo has received a great deal of capital and service support. According to the Zhongguancun Management Committee, the special fund favors companies with technologies that can transform and industrialize frontier and original technologies. A single project can obtain financial support of up to 30 million yuan.
Indications are that 2019’s special funds will focus on such technological breakthroughs as artificial intelligence, high-end chips, big data and cloud computing, 5G mobile communications, biomedicine, high-end medical devices, industrial Internet, high-end precision manufacturing, intelligent robots, graphene and autonomous driving.
Enterprises that can fill domestic blanks in technologies, products, outfitting and crafts are especially highly evaluated by experts.
Suburban parks receive special attention
Download a high-definition movie in one minute, and watch the live broadcast of the Winter Olympics with full 360-degree views on a mobile phone... the 5G era is approaching.
In the past 2G, 3G, and 4G eras, most of the key chips used in China's communication base stations were imported from foreign technologies, but in the 5G era, China's self-developed chips will be applied on a large scale.
"5G has extremely high requirements on chip frequency and efficiency, so traditional silicon chips have difficulty meeting the demands. The third-generation semiconductor GaN chip will become mainstream," said An Guoyu, general manager of Guolian Wantong Semiconductor Technology.
An also noted that the RF chip developed by Guolian Wantong has been verified by many international telecom giants, and will be the "brain" of many 5G communication base stations in the future.
Currently, Guolian Wantong is building a third-generation semiconductor R&D and innovation public platform in Zhongguancun’s Shunyi Science Park. The 70,000-square-meter factory has recently been capped and is expected to be put into operation in 2020.
As a leader in national innovation and development, Zhongguancun also faces the problem of uneven development of various parks. However, Zhongguancun's cutting-edge technology companies will not only be located in such central areas as Haidian District, but will also be found in suburban parks.
In addition to Guolian Wantong's industrialization of the third-generation semiconductor GaN chip, Shunyi Park's other gallium technology projects also received the support of special funds.
In Daxing Science Park, which is known as "Medicine Valley", several other medical projects, among them a Zhongguancun Industrial Park of High-end Medical Devices and a natural anti-diabetic drug developed by Wehand Bio-Pharmaceutical Company, have also received support.
The Mentougou Science Park where Aubo Robotic is located focuses on the high-end manufacturing industry. Jingdiao technology, Summersprout technology and other projects in the park have also been recognized.
Changping Park introduced Innocare Biomedical Company, which was founded by well-known scientist Shi Yigong; Huairou Park built an incubation platform for nanotechnologies; and Fangshan Park introduced self-driving leader UISEE and built other incubation platforms of hard technologies like Aoxiang Intelligent Manufacturing.
In addition, to coordinate development of science parks, priority is given to suburban parks and attempts are made to ensure that at least two projects in every park receive capital support.
