In accordance with the municipal government's instructions on project implementation in last year's competition, and combined with the positioning requirements of the city's science and technology, agricultural technology, medical health, sports science and other fields, this year's competition will further strengthen cooperation with Haidian, Tongzhou, Pinggu, Changping, Yanqing and other sub-parks.

For instance, in conjunction with Zhongguancun (Haidian) Frontier Technology Innovation Center (Phase II), Zhongguancun (Tongzhou) City Science and Technology Frontier Technology Innovation Center, and Zhongguancun (Pinggu) Agricultural Science and Technology Frontier Technology Innovation Center, the finals of relevant fields will be arranged in sub-parks to meet the review needs of high-quality projects.

Projects of the competition possess the following characteristics:

The first is to lead the cutting-edge technologies. A number of hard scientific and technological achievements have been formed in the fields of gene sequencing, autonomous driving, image screening, 3D printing, lithium-ion batteries, and high-end chips. For instance, Witinmem Technology combines computing and storage in storage units, and develops the latest Flash-based artificial intelligence chip design architecture. Huiying Medical has launched the only intelligent imaging cloud platform in China that realizes seamless connection and three-end logging.

The second is to highlight independent innovation. The spherical metal powder for high-quality additive manufacturing developed by AMC Powders can solve the problem of insufficient domestic R&D and supply of high-end products in the metal powder field; and Hercule Micro is one of the first domestic companies to start independent R&D, mass production and volume sales of heterogeneous programmable and adaptive computing chips.

The third is to meet actual needs. The competition projects spur scientific and technological innovation in line with national strategies and social needs. For example, "Smart Ice Hockey", a competition event created to serve the Beijing Winter Olympics, is the first domestic ice hockey data collection and analysis system developed by Beijing Huaxing Yunrui, which can realize multi-dimensional performance analysis of players in training.

Viriom focuses on the development of anti-AIDS drugs; their first oral capsule was listed in 2017. The automatic driving technology for heavy trucks developed by TuSimple has great application prospects in horizontal transportation such as ports, mines, industrial parks and inter-city/provincial logistics.

Teams of award-winning projects will be invited to visit sub-parks, and enterprises that have won prizes will be organized to connect with the sixteen sub-parks of Zhongguancun, especially its ten suburban ones.
