He Wei, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), attended and addressed the 4th Population Development Strategy Conference in Beijing. The conference was held both online and offline.
For the country's overall development and people's well-being, it's critically important to proactively respond to population aging and promote long-term, balanced population growth, said He. This meeting is part of practical measures to pool resources and ideas and build a broad consensus in implementing the country's population strategy, he said.
He, also executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party, called for accelerated efforts to implement the three-child policy and improve supportive measures related to child bearing, parenting and education.
Efforts should also be made to advance high-quality elderly care, he added.
