Wuhan held a city-wide meeting on Jan 4 to advance the construction of its "Five Centers". The focus was on crafting the 2026 work plan to establish Wuhan as a national central city, leading provincial development and setting the pace for progress.

Economic Center

By 2026, Wuhan aims to further boost its economic output and expand effective demand. The city will focus on major project development to accelerate the growth of emerging industries, including new integrated circuits, optical communications and computing, and advanced electronic materials.

Science and Technology Innovation Center

Wuhan is concentrating on enhancing the overall efficiency of its innovation system, using the "One City, Three Corridors, Multiple Belts" framework to deeply integrate technological and industrial innovation. Innovation parks will be developed based on the Jiangcheng and Jiufengshan labs, with the goal of producing over 20 significant scientific achievements.

Trade and Logistics Center

Wuhan plans to expand the reach of its China-Europe freight trains, support the expansion of the "dual-hub" international flight network, and add 150 new duty-free shops. Initiatives like "Roaming Wuhan" will boost cultural and tourism spending, with 10 premium travel routes set to launch.

International Exchange Center

The city will host over five major foreign affairs events, increasing its network of international sister cities to 129. Key exchange projects, such as anniversary celebrations of partnerships with countries including the United Kingdom, New Zealand, South Korea, and Peru, will be launched.

Regional Financial Center

Wuhan will continue to deepen structural reforms in financial supply and foster technology finance service platforms. In Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley of China, or OVC), the city will begin construction of a technology finance service platform and a technology risk assessment center.
