Most of the SUSTech undergraduate degree classes are taught in English and adopt the “1 + 3/2 + 2” academic model. This model consists of taking foundational courses and general education in the first academic year to strengthen students' grounding and general knowledge. In the second and third academic years, students choose a major according to their strengths and academic requirements. Throughout their undergraduate studies, the university builds a platform for students to explore current research in a variety of disciplines and fields, and they can participate in cutting-edge research projects with hands-on research from their first year in Shenzhen.

In order to provide the best opportunity for students to learn from a wide range of academics, SUSTech invites hundreds of guest lecturers to campus every year, with two or more lectures taking place every day.
