About 200 volunteers in 17 teams in Tonglu county, East China's Zhejiang province, carried out a promotion campaign to recommend the use of serving spoons and chopsticks on March 25.

The "serving spoons and chopsticks" action is a proposal made by the local government to advise catering businesses to provide serving spoons and chopsticks to customers to promote healthier table manners and stem the transmission of diseases.

It hopes to further improve local people's civilization quality and self-protection ability through 12 themed activities covering restaurants, canteens, and people's home lives.

Using serving spoons and chopsticks is a good way to cultivate healthy living habits and prevent germ spreading, said volunteer Xuan Jie, deputy director of the Tonglu supply and marketing cooperative council, at the county's Dongmen community.

The volunteers also introduced relevant regulations and standards to the catering businesses and people passing by.

Moreover, the local government recently issued consumption coupons as a way to help revive local consumption. All involved catering businesses are welcomed to take part in the "serving chopsticks and spoons" action.

Nearly 20 restaurants and canteens have responded to the proposal and promised to put it into practice. And a thousand volunteers of Party members from local government are participating in and helping to promote the action, according to the county's civility department.

More diversified activities will be launched in the future. They include a photo sharing activity in which people are asked to share pictures of them using serving chopsticks and spoons in WeChat Moments to achieve a good promotion effect.

Local civilized families and primary and secondary school students are also encouraged to dedicate themselves to the action to help others develop more civilized and healthier table manners.
