Shanghai International IP Forum opens
The 17th Shanghai International Intellectual Property (IP) Forum opened in Shanghai on Oct 20 – with the aim of: "promoting high-quality economic development in the post-pandemic era and building Shanghai into an international forefront of IP protection".
Shen Changyu, commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration, or CNIPA, attended and addressed the opening ceremony.
Gong Zheng, mayor of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and Daren Tang, director general of the World Intellectual Property Organization, or WIPO, delivered speeches by video link.

Shen said in his speech that Shanghai pays a great deal of attention to IP protection.
The city plays a leading role in China's IP development, Shen added.
He also mentioned that during this special time when the world is facing a public health and economic crisis, it was of great importance to give full play to the role of IP in promoting innovation and economic development.
Mayor Gong Zheng talked about Shanghai's efforts and achievements in recent years in building itself into an IP hub in the Asia-Pacific region.

Daren Tang spoke highly of China's achievements in IP development. He said WIPO would continue to work closely with CNIPA to support the development of the IP ecosystem in China.
The awards ceremony of the second WIPO-SMPG Shanghai IP Innovation Award was held during the event.
A total of seven – including East China Normal University Press Ltd and the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology – received the honors.
Launched in 2003 and having run successfully for 16 years, the Shanghai International Intellectual Property Forum has become China's heavy-weight international IP forum.
Officials said it is an important platform for China to communicate its IP position to the outside world.
