The century-old apple trees at Wosen orchard in Penglai district, Yantai drew much attention from foreign visitors on Oct 28, with their broad leaves and thick trunks.

The trees were introduced to Yantai in 1871, nearly 150 years ago.

The orchard is home to more than 10 century-old apple trees. The main trunk of the largest tree has a width of 2.3 meters. Its crown is 9.2 meters long from east to west, and 11.7 meters long from north to south, and the tree stands at an impressive 6 meters high.

The Penglai district government makes strong efforts to protect the trees and has formulated a detailed plan for managing the soil, fertilizer, and water, as well as protecting the surrounding environment.

The old orchard is expected to showcase the city's apple culture and promote the sustainable development of the apple industry.
