Tonglu improves residents' sense of security, happiness

The sustained efforts made by Tonglu county in East China's Zhejiang province to promote reform in grassroots governance have greatly improved residents’ sense of security and happiness.

One innovative approach taken by the local government was the establishment of facilities to mediate and resolve social disputes.

One such facility in Jiangnan town, Tonglu has resolved 562 disputes since it was inaugurated in August last year.

In addition, the Party chief of Zhongyi village in the Zhongshan township has dedicated one day each month to help villagers resolve disputes.

Due to these efforts, the number of people who have sought help from authorities has decreased by nearly 16 percent this year, with the public's satisfaction rate for the government departments involved increasing by 2.11 percent year-on-year.

Volunteers and public security authorities have also contributed to the improved sense of safety among residents in Tonglu.

Wang Jing, who owns a restaurants on Yaolin Road, said that he feels safe living in Tonglu as the volunteers assigned to safeguard the city's safety can be found everywhere in the county.
