The China Tourism Academy and Chinese tourism website Mafengwo recently released a report on 2021 global self-guided tours, which ranked the Xijiang One-thousand-household Miao Village in Southwest China's Guizhou province seventh among China's top 30 most popular destinations.
The village is located in Leishan county, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong autonomous prefecture, and has the world's largest population of people of the Miao ethnic group.
Lying deep in Leigong Mountain, the village used to lack living and economic resources and was difficult to get to. In 2008, the village started to develop its tourism industry after the third Guizhou Tourism Industry Development Conference.
After more than 10 years of development, Xijiang now has a flourishing economy, high living standards, a beautiful environment, harmonious society, rich ethnic culture, and developed a homestay sector.
While improving tourism services and building tourism infrastructure, Xijiang also made plans to boost the cluster development of homestays.
Homestay owners are encouraged to integrate Miao embroidery and batik into their homestays to increase their economic value. So far, the village's homestays have provided jobs to more than 1,000 villagers in neighboring areas.
