During the Dragon Boat Festival holiday from June 3 to 5, scenic spots in the Linping district of Hangzhou city – capital of Zhejiang province in East China – received a total of 57,935 visits, a strong performance matched the previous year, local media reported.
During the break, the district staged various cultural and tourism activities. At the Chaoshan Mountain scenic area, activities such as painting, wrapping zongzi, or glutinous rice dumplings, camping and making sachets took place, attracting the participation of throngs of tourists.
Tangxi Ancient Town provided tourists with the chance to experience traditional culture and folk customs by putting on Chinese shadow puppetry performances and dragon boat races.
As the holiday was a short one, a leisure tour was the popular choice for many people.
At a crayfish farm tourists paid to go crayfish fishing – an activity launched by the Linping Feixiang cooperative in Shuangqiao village. It attracted more than 300 families every day during the break.
The fishing area also doubles up as rice-growing area. Last November, after the rice was harvested, the cooperative began breeding crayfish in the paddy fields.
"This year, monthly sales have doubled from last year to about 300,000 yuan ($44,994) after we launched the special crayfish fishing activities," said cooperative head Shen Xianglin.
