Introduction to "Future City" Explorer Global Innovation Competition

The Beijing Daxing International Airport Economic Zone (BDIAEZ), known as "China's New Gateway", is a hub of global innovation and a new engine for China's development. It aspires to become a world-class destination for convention and exhibition (C&E) and consumption.

The "Future City" Explorer Global Innovation Competition, part of the planning and construction of the Daxing International C&E and Consumption Hub, is designed to collect ideas for urban innovation and development, fuel innovation in technology, policy and business, and build a platform of exchanges among talents, projects and brands.

I. The Context

With the approval of the State Council, the BDIAEZ is defined as a function-carrier area for international interaction, a leading area for national aviation technology innovation, and a demonstration area for coordinated development of Beijing. 

It will take full advantage of Beijing Daxing International Airport, a new engine for China's development, and leverage its role to further the country's dual-circulation development pattern.

By promoting the strategic growth of high-quality development and gathering global entrepreneurs and innovative talents, the BDIAEZ will become a hub where global innovation resources can be connected and an opening-up platform for the coordinated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei.

In this context, the BDIAEZ initiated the "1+X" featured global creativity and innovation collection activities. The "X" theme activity is the "Future City" Explorer Global Innovation Competition, in which the BDIAEZ will work with top universities and well-known institutions around the world to explore the innovative development of a "Future City".

II. The Purpose

The "X" competition, with the theme of "Future City", will be composed of the four factors of green and low-carbon, cultural inclusivity, new consumption, and smart tech in a bid to stimulate thinking on environmental protection, humanity, new consumption and wisdom throughout all of society.

III. The Competition

1. Organizers

The host, the Beijing Daxing International Airport Economic Zone Administrative Committee, will work with top universities and well-known institutions globally in the sectors of green and low-carbon development, cultural inclusivity, new consumption, and smart tech to hold the event.

2. Contestants

Chinese and overseas organizations, individuals or teams with ideas about and insights into the field of "Future City" are welcomed, as are enterprises with core technologies or innovation models.

3. Application

An application-specific channel for competition has been opened. Scan the official QR code and fill in the application checklist.

IV. The Selection

1. Preliminary

Each applicant is required to present their projects at a roadshow. The host will organize an expert panel to give a closed-door evaluation. A list of 14 finalists will be officially announced on August 19.

2. Final

The final will take the form of a roadshow presentation. The host will organize the panel to score and determine the ranking according to the contestants' professional background, ability and influence, as well as the innovative highlights, application prospects and professional value of the proposals.

V. The Honors & Awards

The rankings will be announced after the roadshow, composed of the first, second and third prizes and excellence awards. The outstanding teams that fail to go into the final can compete for the feature awards, and will be invited to watch the competition and brief exhibition. The feature award list will be announced on the spot.

In addition, non-prize awards and development support will be available to reward the teams in terms of honor, incubation and empowerment:

1. Honors: Qualified contestants will win the title of "New Gateway Star", and be given recommended places in the New Gateway Talent Program.

2. Incubation: Qualified contestants will have opportunities to work with investment institutions such as Beijing New Aerotropolis Fund Management as well as around 100 other venture capital firms and private equity firms. They will receive incubation and project support from the Airport Economic Zone Development Center and the Pilot Free Trade Zone Innovation Center.

3. Empowerment: All finalists will receive guidance from top global strategy consulting companies, senior executives from investment institutions, and mentors from top universities at home and abroad, and have the opportunity to communicate with masters in their field.

VI. The Publicity

The official release channels include the BDIAEZ website (www.ftzbj.com), the WeChat public platforms of BDIAEZ, Beijing New Aerotropolis and other partners, and media partners such as China Daily.

More than 40 Chinese mainstream media and new media platforms including Xinhua News Agency, People's Daily, China Daily and CCTV will follow and cover the whole process of the competition.
